With organized team activities well underway and the offseason building momentum toward fantasy football draft season our staff consensus rankings are now available. We’ll be offering one position per week in the month of June to cover all you’ll need to know for early rankings, starting with our 2014 fantasy football quarterback ranks.
In truth, there is still a lot to learn about each of these players and their team contexts for this year, so you’re likely to see some fluidity in the ranks as the season draws nearer – particularly toward the lower end of the list – but for your early season board setting, our staff have compiled their QB ranks below.

While arguments can be made for Drew Brees over Aaron Rodgers and vice versa, I don’t think it will surprise too many that our three rankers all have Peyton Manning, Brees and Rodgers in their top three. Matthew Stafford as the unanimous next best after these elite level talents come off the board may surprise some, but with additions on offense and a perpetual 5,000 yard arm Stafford may find himself closer to the top tier conversation than justifying his fourth rank. The addition of Golden Tate and Eric Ebron projects to free up the rest of the offense, and with two strong pass-catching tailbacks the options are limitless for Stafford. Expect plenty of shootouts, enjoy the indoor home games, and anticipate a continued pass-heavy approach under Jim Caldwell.
You get a broad range of opinion on Cam Newton, with a high of five and a low of a barely QB1 worthy 12. Certainly, Newton has lost some weapons (and some protection) but just how much should we value a running QB regardless of those weapons? Clearly, our rankers have differences of opinion here. In fact, you’ll see a great deal of variance within the ranks on all the mobile QBs – except for Robert Griffin III who gets an early vote of confidence for a bounceback year with a stronger receiving corps than he has seen in his first two seasons and the adoption of Jay Gruden’s offensive philosophy.
